In french
reading / writing : we have worked on medieval story "roman de renard" and read Librini's novel . he will visit our class next thursday.
flash dictations are still being used as well to work on our grammar skills, while developing our general historical culture.
homework : I have reminded that "kif du jour" reinforces oral proficiency and must not be taken lightly : i expect more than " I liked ... because it was fun." I want our students to describe why it was fun, not just state so. this repetitive task allows me to collect mistakes we can correct together. we will improve our proficiency by correcting mistakes. I expect more than a sentence or two. I expect our students to make one sentence out of two (complex sentences using connectors).
We rehearse orally to reinforce our written proficiency, but we also use our written assignments to reinforce our oral proficiency.

I encourage students to use this website at home under an adult's supervision, as always with the internet.
This website is designed for French students to read the news. this is appropriate for our students' age, but i can't control the content that changes everyday. even though i have never observed any problem , due to cultural differences, i advise parents to look at the website with their children. i like this website because all major difficult words are explained. there are videos and audio recordings. IT CAN REALLY HELP OUR STUDENTS TO READ TEXTS THEY CANNOT FIND IN OUR LIBRARY THAT ARE WELL ADAPTED TO THEIR COMPREHENSION LEVEL.
students absolutely need to practice writing by doing their "kif du jour" that is usually due on fridays.
as always, we have written "dictees eclair" to improve our spelling and reinforce our grammar knowledge in both languages. we also try to find why one sentence out of four is correct, and explain how we know so.
Autodictation s will make students work on syntaxic structures they will need when taking the aAppl test and their future studies. They need to memorize a text they will write on thursday.
reconstructed dictation will be another task we work on. That is an excerpt from which we take some words off each day. we try to memorize and read the text aloud. Gradually, many words disappear, and students will finally write the text, using the remaining words on the board. the goal is - again - to improve intuitive grammar and spelling skills.
writing is crucial in history as well. taking notes to present a document, writing to express major ideas students have understood, writing to sum up knowledge, writing to ask questions are all central to history activities. History helps reinforce writing and help us focusing on informative texts.
in math, WE have REINFORCED equations.
in history, WE HAVE FINISHED the XIX century / the industrial revolution. we have started wwI. we harve worked hard on history this week.
participation is worth 20 points. "3 things i understood + 1 question" reports are worth 30 points. reports, posters, or qcm - multiple answers questions - are worth 50 points. tests are worth 100 points. when students fail , they may ask for an extra homework assignment. it is worth up to 50 points. absent students must take all history tests.
